Community Development

Cooksville is a diverse neighbourhood with many newcomers to Canada, a rich heritage, and unique small businesses. It is also on the cusp of major changes fueled by upcoming infrastructure investments and transit-oriented developments and ensuring that these changes result in equitable community outcomes is critical.

To address this, the Cooksville Community Collaborative was formed, made up of local agency partners and under the leadership of Indus Community Services, supported by the Neighbourhoods Strategy at United Way Greater Toronto.

Goal of Cooksville Community Collaborative

The goal of the Cooksville Community Collaborative is to cultivate and steward local solutions to address local challenges alongside partners and residents by leveraging key emerging opportunities and local revitalization efforts in Cooksville, while influencing positive local change in the neighbourhood along social and economic indicators.

Cooksville Community Action Plan

The Cooksville Community Action Plan (CCAP) identifies the following priority areas for our work:

  • Community Space and Services
  • Health, Well-Being, and Resilience
  • Housing Stability
  • Economic Stability

These priorities were identified via resident and partner engagement and the CCAP outlines the scope of each priorities using a social determinants of health lens.
